Homeschool Highschool Podcast Ep 14: Readers Theater Party- It’s COOL!
Homeschooling highschool needs to include lots of fun! Teens learn well when they learn and laugh with their friends!
Help create a terrific Language Arts credit on the homeschool transcript by adding Readers Theater parties to your schedule. Readers Theater parties are fun and easy and a quick way to get a book on the booklist!
Readers Theater Party- It’s COOL and is fairly simple to pull off. Simply get a copy of the script for each of your homeschool highschoolers who are participating. These scripts can be anything from The Importance of Being Earnest to Our Town to anything Shakespeare.
Students read the scripts aloud with each student taking a part and one student being the narrator. Students are reading, not for great acting but simply as a read aloud.
Sometimes students don’t want to take parts so Readers Theatre looks like simply reading around the room with the next person taking the next line, over and over again. It’s fun (and a little silly).
Students get a tiny taste of drama…and a book on their booklist.
One of the best authors of plays that are great for Readers Theater is (of course) William Shakespeare. Take a few minutes and check out the Homeschool Highschool Podcast episode where Sabrina talks about teaching Shakespeare to that teens actually like it!
Sabrina has taught Shakespeare with our homeschool co-ops and umbrella school classes and teens love it. They start with the freebie Expressions Shakespeare Gave Us to help them understand that Shakespeare’s vocabulary is still around today.
Listen in for tips for making this a really fun event! Join Vicki and Sabrina for simple how-to’s for throwing a Readers Theater party!
