Service on the Homeschool Transcript
Join us for a discussion on the how’s and why’s of recording Service on the homeschool transcript.
Homeschool highschoolers need to show richness of experience and community mindedness on their transcripts. Colleges love to see that your teens will be skilled in creating a good campus culture. Service is one way to show that important community/culture creating ability.
More importantly to us homeschooling families, is the fact that service is one of the best ways to develop Christlike-character traits of kindness, generosity and sacrifice.
Serving others is often a way for teens to get out of their academics and into other things. Academics is, of course, the most important part of homeschooling high school. If a teen is not educated in the way that is best for him or her, they cannot succeed in life (or earn a diploma, for that matter).
However, if academics is ALL that our homeschool high schoolers do, they will not learn to perspective-take and understand the needs of others. Teens are at a phase of life called adolescent egocentrism. This is not a bad thing but it needs to be a phase they move through and into an understanding of the things, people and places around them.
That’s why service is so important!
Join Sabrina, Vicki and Kym discuss why and how to earn those necessary service hours!
