Middle School Literature Guides. No-busywork, great comprehension-building for middle school readers using classic titles the tweens love. Titles for these guides include: Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry (FREEBIE), Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’brien and Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan. While there’s not ONE right way to homeschool middle school, we recommend introducing the concept of literature study guides in middle school but only doing one or two per year.
Each study guide includes vocabulary from the book, comprehension questions for each chapter and going deeper questions for more mature students. Younger middle schoolers often benefit from comprehension questions for each chapter because these help build skills to maintain focus on the plot line, keep characters straight in their minds and anticipate possible twists and turns in the story.
