Syllabus for Early Childhood Education

Many teens will work with young children at some point in their homeschool high school years. Working with young children is so much easier and more fun, when teens have some skills in Early Childhood Eduction.

To help teens stay organized (and help parents with their records), here is a suggested syllabus to work with the text. Feel free to adapt this syllabus to meet your teens’ needs. Remember, this is a freebie download in the 7Sisters e-store.

Course Description

Upon completion of the course, student will have covered the scope and sequence for one-half credit in introductory Early Childhood Education course.

  • Course Goals

    • At the completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate an introductory knowledge of Early Childhood Education and apply basic principals and theory of Early Childhood Education to their daily life when they work with young children
  • Course Objectives

    • Early Childhood Education is an elective or Career Exploration course that teaches teens:
      • How young children grow and develop
      • Different philosophies of Early Childhood Education
      • Practical teaching ideas and lesson planning

Grading Scale (adjust to your needs):

  • Attendance 10% (if in co-op or group class)
  • Class Participation 40% (For co-op:this includes passing around homework,- so you must keep homework current to get a good participation grade. For individual: this includes attitude and timeliness of assignments)
  • Assignments 50% (must be neatly written and stapled-if text is printed out, or neatly typed in the editable text; and handed in according to syllabus)
