I have a question – I want to use “A Final Year of High School ELA” for my son BUT he already read The Three Muskateers and . I would like to add David Copperfield and Animal Farm and take out Little Women and The Three Muskateers. I wanted to know where you think I might be able to add those books. I wasn’t sure I could simply swap them out or if I need to make room. Thought I would ask for some advice! I plan on using this study guide for Animal Farm and making something up for David Copperfield. Is this a good fit for someone who ISN’T planning on going on to get a college degree?

Good questions! Feel free to swap out any of the literature guides! You are doing what is best for your homeschooling teen. For a teen who is not planning on college: he can skip any “leveling up” suggestions. And of course, you can modify his booklist to meet his needs and interests. Have a wonderful school year!

I was wondering how many weeks it typically takes for a HS student to complete this guide for Animal Farm?

Every teen moves through books at a different pace. Some students aim to get through one study guide per month, while a quick reader might take a week or two. Our goal for the guides is not to overteach and not kill the book by covering every possible topic. Instead, we cover one or two literature analysis skills related to the book so that there is no busywork.

We don’t have a standardized number of pages (because we don’t fill space with busywork to make them standard). However, most guides are 20-25 pages long.
I am wondering, on average, how many pages the high school level literature guides are?
