Homeschool Highschool Podcast Episode 45: Adulting Skills for Teens
Your homeschool highschoolers need electives for their transcripts. Important electives include life preparation skills. College bound or not, teens will grow up and be responsible for themselves. What adulting skills can you turn into electives?
There’s not ONE right way to choose which adulting skills to include. Choose the skills that best meet your goals (and your teens’ goals). Here are a few that our teens have included in life preparation:
- Home Economics
- Sewing and clothing repairs
- Cooking
- Meal planning
- Grocery shopping
- Household chores: How-to and scheduling
- Yard care and upkeep
- Basic gardening
- Home Maintenance
- Basic repairs (fix a leaky faucet, replace a door knob, when to call in a repair professional)
- Painting (how-to, choosing colors, asking for help at home supply stores, wall repairs)
- Auto Maintenance
- What to check (fluids, air pressure)
- How to find a good mechanic
- Social Skills
- How to hold a conversation
- How to ask for help
- How to listen well
- How to give encouragement without overwhelming advice
- Self-monitoring (Here’s a post on How to Maintain Composure)
