How to Get Started Using Cinema Studies ELA Bundle
There are so many families these days who are starting to homeschool high school! That’s so exciting! We love to see new families in the homeschool high school community!
Parents who are new to homeschooling high school tell us that the variety of curriculum formats can be bewildering at times. I can understand that! (Although, it does make me happy. I remember in the old, old days when we had to beg curriculum publishers to sell us homeschooling families ANY format of curriculum. The times have changed!)
As you may have noticed, 7Sisters English/Language Arts curriculum comes in a “bundle format”. This means that instead of downloading a textbook, homeschooling parents will download a curriculum bundle of files. You and your teens will organize these in a way that fits your family’s style and needs. Then your teens can enjoy a no-busywork, interesting, meaningful ELA credit!
(BTW- In case you haven’t heard. There are 6 of us 7Sisters- Marilyn, Sabrina, Kym, Vicki, Allison, and Sara. So who is the 7th Sister, or 7th Sibling, YOU are!! Welcome!)
So for parents who are new to using 7Sisters curriculum bundles, let me take you step by step through getting started. Let’s look at how things work with 7Sisters Cinema Studies for Literature Learning Full-Year ELA Bundle.
Getting started using Cinema Studies ELA Bundle
This is not difficult, once you get the hang of it!
Step 1
At the checkout page scroll down and you will find some links to your Cinema Studies for Literature Learning ELA Bundle. It will look like this:
- ELA CSLL Intro & How To
- Cinema Studies AK 7 Sisters ELA
- Cinema Studies 7 Sisters ELA
- Writing and Public Speaking 7Sisters CSLL ELA
- Bundle CSLL ELA Syllabus
As you can see, there are 5 links. (Of course, the links are not highlighted in my example, but they will look like live links when you check out- underlined and purple.)
Step 2
Create a “new folder” on your desktop. Name it something you like. Perhaps Cinema Studies or ELA.
Step 3
Download each of the 5 files and place them in your new folder.
Good work! Now let’s take a look at each of the files!
Let’s organize the files
Step 1 Open the file that says “ELA CSLL Intro & How To”. (CSLL stands for Cinema Studies for Literature Learning.)
This is a file that explains the ELA bundle and how to earn a full credit of English/Language Arts. Take a look at this with your teen.
- Introductory material
- Explanation of how literature analysis works with movies and list of Cinema Studies movie guides included
- “Go deeper” on literature analysis with a few interesting novels
- Explanation of the writing guides included
- Discussion of how grammar, vocabulary and public speaking are included in the cinema and literature guides
- Explanation of “Levels of Rigor” and how many books teens should read each year, according to their needs, abilities, and goals
- Guidelines for grading and record keeping
Step 2 Open the Bundle CSLL ELA Syllabus
This is a flexible syllabus that guides students through thirty-two weeks (two semesters) for their ELA credit. This syllabus has a couple of different versions. We suggest adapting it to your needs and your teen’s needs.
Step 3 Open Cinema Studies AK 7 Sisters ELA
These are for you (rather than, for your teen). This is a zip file with all the answer keys to the Cinema Studies Guides. If you want, you can create your own file with ELA Answer Keys.
Step 4 Open Cinema Studies 7 Sisters ELA
Now comes the fun! You and your teen can open the zip file and see the Cinema Studies for Literature Learning Guides. If you are following the syllabus, you can store the files in order. OR simply pull up the next one when the syllabus says it is time.
These guides do NOT need to be completed in the order suggested in the syllabus. Rearrange as you wish. After all, there’s not ONE right way to homeschool high school!
Step 5 Open Writing and Public Speaking 7Sisters CSLL ELA
In order to earn a full ELA credit, teens need writing and a little public speaking (English/Language Arts is a huge credit). This zip file contains all the writing guides and the public speaking lessons that your teen needs for this year’s ELA credit.
If you are following the syllabus, you can store the files in order. OR simply pull up the next one when the syllabus says it is time. These guides do NOT need to be completed in the order suggested in the syllabus. Rearrange as you wish.
