  1. This is my first 7sisters purchase, and it wasn’t quite what I expected. The Ebook Study Guide is only 12 pages with no real schedule or guide, just 4 pages of essay questions after you’ve completed the book. The first 8 pages are background and literary concepts. Was really just expecting something more and different. This will not work for me.

    • Hi Kimberly,
Sorry that the guide doesn’t work for you. As you may have read, our guides are no-busywork, don’t-kill-the-book guides that only cover one or two literary devices per guide. Over time, as teens work through the guides, they maintain a love of reading while gaining a broad education in literary analysis. However, there’s not ONE kind of teen and ONE kind of homeschool family. If this doesn’t work for you and yours, that’s okay. Simply contact [email protected]. If you are still within the purchase time period, there’s a refund available to you for the $6.99 price.

  2. Does this guide have a set number of weeks with daily assignments? I am considering using this combined with the Myth/Fantasy writing course for a semester elective, “Intro to Myth/Fantasy Writing”. I assume they would work well together?

  3. Hi,
Would it be possible to use this literary guide with the Movie instead of the book do you think?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Erin,
That’s an interesting thought. As you know, the movie is not exactly like the book but many of the story elements are there. It might be fun to give it a try.

  4. Hi Janet,
7Sisters guides (including The Hobbit) are set up to be “levelable”. Which means that the way the guide is used can be adapted to various interest and ability levels. If your grandson needs help with many things, you will be working right with him step-by-step through this guide. This is good for remedial learners, as they get a solid academic experience, increase their inferential skills, critical thinking skills and research skills but do it with an “assistant”.
The vocabulary is taken directly from the book (as in all our guides). The student researches the definitions and then uses them as much as their “assistants” see fit. Since you are homeschooling, you can choose what is best for him (as in omitting words that might be overwhelming to him). Here are a few of the words: Throng
Ere Delves Audacious Estimable Prudent Remuneration Defrayed Requisite Cavalcade Purloined Homely Bogs Vexed Subterranean
The guide is arranged with vocabulary and necessary background information, followed by questions from the story.
    Best wishes!

  5. “The Hobbit” My grandson is in 10th grade but needs help with many things. Is there a way to actually see parts of the study guide containing vocab, etc. before purchasing. I need to see…to know if he’d be able to handle the study guide . The above sample gives no indication of how the study guide is set up in regards to student participation.
