Crisis can take many forms for homeschool highschoolers (and their families):

  • Lost a loved one to death
  • Natural disaster
  • Friend has an emotional crisis
  • Best friend moves far away
  • Accidents
  • Did poorly on the SATs

Adolescents are in a developmental phase where crises affect them strongly. They may become sad, anxious or question everything. They may isolate or become irritable.

How can you help a teen who is going through a crisis time?

Remember to:

  • Listen
  • Don’t judge
  • Don’t panic
  • Take seriously their concerns or dangers
  • Err on the side of getting help

When teens are going through a crisis time, moms often feel guilty and can get stuck. (Moms are naturally prone to guilt- even when it is misplaced…) So, Moms: be compassionate to yourself, let go and let God (forgive yourself), and get support for yourself when you need it. You matter!
